Believers Must Trust God’s Directives For Their Lives

(Passage: Matthew 16)

The best decision a person can take in life is to follow God’s directives. Jesus knew the reason for his life’s existence; he must prepare the salvation pathway and save people. Peter who was passionate about his master (Jesus) would rather see him following a different path.

Peter ignorantly persuaded Jesus to change his course. He wanted him to not sacrifice his life, but rather hang around and remain his good boss.

Peter lacked spiritual understanding and did not realize that God’s directive for Christ was for him to die to save humanity from their sins.

Jesus rebuked Peter for his spiritual insensitivity as the Bible reported;

“… From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to you!” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men” (Matthew 16:21-23).

Spiritual Directives Can’t Be Understood With Literal Assessment

Christians must allow the Holy Spirit to direct us in making a decision that can benefit us and glorify God.

Believers must not judge a matter with visual and literal assessment only. We must be prayerful while evaluating a matter and let God guide us into making an appropriate decision.

No Christian should engage in any spiritual activity with a carnal mind; we must not allow the flesh to rule us!

The cravings of the flesh are not limited to pride, selfishness, gluttony, immorality, injustice, and other ungodly acts.

Carnality is also frowned upon by God, and believers must do away with it as much as possible!

A person who allows the Spirit of God to rule him or her will save himself from making any irrational decision that he may later regret.

A Spirit-led person will live a life that radiates God’s beauty that will be rewarded in this life and in heaven.
