Sin Irritates God; Believers Must Abstain From It
(Passage: 1 Samuel 31)
An outcry against sin may not be widespread in our present day, but we can’t deny the fact that God still hates it. It is not in God’s nature to entertain sin, so he raises an eye brown against those who practice it.
The instance that suggests how God could react to sin is found in the Bible (1 Samuel 28). The Creator scolded King Saul and turned his back against him when he needed him most.
Saul transgressed, and he saw the other side of God. God refused to answer his prayer during war; he became frustrated, took more wrong steps, which eventually led to his downfall.
God was no more available for Saul’s consultation (the king of Israel) because he transgressed. The man compromised further and lost it all. Sin is evil!
Sin destroys faster than any weapon of war.
King Saul transgressed; he fell from grace. He lost contact with God and became vulnerable. Saul eventually died in the enemies’ hands.
Bible reported King Saul’s ordeal, as it led to his downfall.
“Then the Philistines gathered together and came and encamped at Shunem. So Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped at Gilboa. When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly… And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” (1 Samuel 28:4-8).
…Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa …So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day” (1 Samuel 31:1-6).
Some Important Lessons About Sin Sin irritates God. It causes God to make a tough decision against his own children. Since God requires all people to obey him, he can’t turn around to bless a disobedient child! God will bless anyone who follows his instructions. God will enforce his justice on disobedient children.
Sin takes people far away from God. Don’t join the queque.
Dear God, please give me the grace to follow your instruction and make you happy. Don’t let me provoke you with sin so that I won’t face your judgment. Help me to keep to your words so that I can prosper!
Please help me to exercise genuine repentance whenever I transgress. Please keep me pure at all times to qualify for your everlasting blessing. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
