FLEE APPEARANCE OF TEMPTATION – Genesis

Overcome Temptation, No Matter The Kind

(Passage: Genesis 39)

Fleeing from a dreadful situation comes naturally. Humans have the instinct to naturally flee from danger; we must also be able to teach ourselves to flee from every sort of temptation that endangers our spiritual life also.

Let’s learn from Joseph in the Bible who used his instinct to flee a pressing temptation. Potiphar’s wife invited Joseph to commit a sin with her, but he refused.

The young man rejected her offer and stated that he would prefer not to sin against God. He did not stand around to argue or give himself a time to reconsider the offer, rather, he fled.

Joseph said to Potiphar’s wife,

“… Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:8).

God’s Blessings Are For Those Who Overcome Temptation

Anyone who considers himself a true Christian ought to live a disciplined life. Such a person must be firm in rejecting sin and standing upright for God! He or she must understand and be able to decide what is good or bad, based on the word of God.

Indeed, God is ever willing to see his children maintaining the standard of righteousness at all times. He expects us to make him proud by avoiding any pit of temptation that Satan may introduce.

True children of God must be affirmative in their responses in saying “yes” or “no” as a situation may demand.

Meanwhile, Christians must be careful not to confuse outward behavior or an external appearance as a true reflection of holiness. True holiness comes from within, which eventually influences our outward behaviors.

Hence, it is imperative for a child of God to do the will of God at all times. God will reward every effort that is made in honor of his holiness standard.

Sin comes through a sweet and simple path, but no sin is small before God. Children of God must overcome the temptation to be rewarded.
